Friday Morning Thursday Night Report. 08/10/12
Back on track, kids! We are so close to having these silly little reports posted on Thursday Mornings. Another couple of weeks and maybe they will start appearing before noon. It’s not likely, but it’s always good to have dreams — Dreams are what keep us alive! What does that even mean and what does it have to do with last night’s club ride?
The weather last night was rubbish! Pure rubbish. On the rollout, we all knew this would certainly have an effect on rider turnout, and we were right. There were 5 in our group leaving town and when we got Duoro, we met up with another 2 riders. From there another handful arrived.
Forget splitting into A-Group or B-Group. Jamie Elcombrocation was the only B-group regular to show up, so he was instantly drafting up to A (Which he should be riding anyway, Dig!)
The pace was kept more than civil to up to and slightly beyond S Bend Hill. It was kind of windy, but not brutal. A lot of the Heavy Hitters were absent, but that didn’t stop the pace from getting rather snappy. There were more than enough strong riders last night to make sure of that.
Last night’s course was a deviation from the norm. Instead of the usual course, we were treated to a one lapper ride of the PCC World Championship course . . . and it’s a good one. A few short, punchy climbs . . . some false flats which are always brutal and a few downhill/recovery sections that helped everyone relocate their legs.
A few attacks went up the road, but nothing stuck right away.
Brian Simpson had the ride of the night! He was riding really aggressive, which was awesome to see. If a move was going up the road, he was in it.
I believe everything came back together on (or near) County Rd. 6 . . . which was the same spot the skies opened. I couldn’t see shit. I assume everyone else had this problem as well. Massive pulls were taken off the front. Steve Marret, who is like dynamite right now, Glen Cameron who also rode extremely strong all night. Scott Murison, Noel, Casey, Deleenher. Everyone was putting in efforts.
The rain started to let up as we headed back down some road that led us to another road that led us home. Cushing, Deleenher and Simmer made a move and guess what? It stuck! For a long time it stuck. Despite a really good chase effort by the pack through Caves road, Warsaw proper, Bells Corners . . . The break held a gap.
Though, Unlike a plastic water bottle in a landfill, some things do not last forever and somewhere near the base of S-Bend hill, the break was reeled in. Guess what happened next? Go ahead, I’ll wait . . . Guess.
SIMMER WENT OFF THE FRONT SOLO. I suppose all that altitude training in Switzerland truly paid off as Simmer hung out there up and over Broccoli hill. I think he would have held on for the win if it wasn’t for some Dickbag who piped him at the line — as the bunch sprint was right on his heels.
For a night of riding that featured terrible weather and the smallest Thursday Night rider count of the year . . . it was damn fun ride.
Random Observations
+ Glen Cameron. Strong legs last night!
+ Kris Lew. What else can we say other than Kris Lew Rules!
+ Much respect to Elcombrocation for hanging in there.
+ Has anyone else noticed John Marret keeps getting stronger each and every Thursday?
+ Chris Jones had a whale of ride.
+ Brian Simpson! He killed it. Great ride, Brian. Sorry for being such a Dickbag.

Great ride last night. Who knew that rain could be so wet.
